From Screen to Reality: Building a Car for World of Warcraft

The team at BigTime took on an epic challenge: bringing a vehicle from the World of Warcraft universe to life. In just 14 days, they built a real-life version of the Goblin car from the “Undermine” release. The result? A fully functional car, complete with a flamethrower exhaust! The video, titled “We Built a Car for World of Warcraft!” shows the process, which was published on February 24, 2025, and has garnered over 750,000 views.

The Quest Begins

The mission started with a mysterious package and a simple instruction: build the “most capable car in all of Undermine”. The team chose a 1923 Ford Model T as their base.

Mechanical Mayhem and Creative Collaboration

The build focused on matching the video game car’s design, including a functional exhaust system and unique wheels. The team planned to make the exhaust shoot flames. They collaborated with LA Set Construction to create the car’s foam body, shaping and hard-coating it to achieve the desired look.

Fire and Fury: The Flamethrower System

A significant part of the project was designing the flamethrower system, using propane (later switched to MAPP gas) and taser-based igniters.

Challenges and Triumphs

The team faced numerous challenges, from wheel fitment issues to welding the differential for better burnouts. They often worked late, adapting their plans as needed. Experts like Colin Boring were brought in for the flamethrower, and the LA Set Construction team’s skills were essential for the bodywork.

The Big Reveal

The completed car, a stunning replica of the video game version, was revealed to the world. The team then filmed a “hero film” for the car at an abandoned asylum, complete with stunt drivers and a full production crew.

Mission Accomplished

The Goblin car was delivered to Blizzard, the creators of World of Warcraft. As a reward, the team was “showered in riches”.

This project highlights the incredible effort, problem-solving, and teamwork required to bring a video game concept into the real world.
