“I Had to Hold in a Poo for 8 Hours” – Frustrated Driver Speaks Out
Drivers were left trapped for more than 10 hours in severe gridlock around Lakeside Shopping Centre after the Dartford Crossing QEII Bridge was closed due to a serious traffic incident.
The bridge was shut down after a HGV collided with a car, leaking fuel across the road. Emergency resurfacing and barrier repairs meant the crossing only reopened around 1:45am, causing a massive standstill for hundreds of drivers.
Stuck Since 2PM
People—including pregnant women, elderly passengers, and families with children—sat helplessly in cars without food, water, or toilet access. One desperate driver said:
“I had to hold in a poo for 8 hours while stuck in gridlock! My phone battery died too.”
Many couldn’t reach their loved ones. Carol Barrow shared:
“I have a colleague who is heavily pregnant. She’s been at a standstill for 7 hours. We can’t even reach her!”
Calls for Accountability
Mark Fraser, a regular Dartford user, demanded answers:
“There needs to be a public enquiry into this crossing. No other country would tolerate weekly chaos like this—and we pay for it too!”
The event has reignited anger over the Dartford Crossing’s vulnerability and poor traffic management, with many demanding reforms.
